I’ve done all the right things, deleting contact numbers, photos, not once checked her SM (go me) I’m keeping busy, thinking right, feeling everything I need to - but I’m suffering. But how on earth do I work through these feelings. Regardless of whether she made the right choice (in my opinion she put her son first, so she did what she felt was correct). But this situation, because we left each other still so in love, is very difficult. You should also try to surround yourself with your friends rather than jumping into a new relationship. After the breakup, you shouldn't try to be friends right away or consistently stalk their social media. I’ve experienced heartbreak, loss, disappointment. Breaking up with someone you love will be painful, so you should prepare yourself for it. It sounds like a bad idea, potentially, and more damaging to everyone involved. But we were both devastated that it had come to this.
I realised that if she couldn’t be happy without her son, she should try and rebuild the cohabiting relationship she had. Unfounded maybe, but it was a deep seated issue. Her fears were based around the son choosing to live with her ex. She was so attached to her son (as you’d expect) but she was terrified about losing him completely. Some people can, even though it is difficult. I was aware this might happen, so had prepared myself for her not being with her son everyday.
A few days apart from him she could just about manage, but a week was too much. However, just as she started work, and started sharing custody of her son, that’s when the problems started. We met, fell in love, and planned to be together. She lived with her ex when we met, just cohabiting so she could raise her son before returning to work and starting her life again. She wanted to have me in her life, to build a life together, but she couldn’t bear to be without her son. I’m going through a rough breakup, and wondered if anyone else had a similar story to share.
